Cell stacks represent the largest share of the cost of alkaline electrolyzers, accounting for around half of the total expense - depending on the capacity of the electrolyzer. For instance, in one megawatt electrolyzers, cell stacks are roughly 45 percent of the cost, whereas for 100 megawatts devices this figure increases up to 64 percent. Meanwhile, power electronics account for the second-largest share of electrolyzers cost, at around one quarter of the total price.
An electrolyzer is a device that uses electricity to break water into hydrogen and oxygen, thus producing hydrogen gas that can be stored.
