Countries with the highest share of people aged 65 years or more worldwide 2021

In 2021, Japan was the country in the world with the highest share of people aged 65 years or more. Nearly 30 percent of the Japanese population had reached this age. Italy followed on the place behind with nearly 24 percent, with Finland in third. By 2050, 22 percent of the world's population is expected to be above 60 years.
