While the majority of vehicle kilometres driven by Strætó's buses were still diesel-fueled in 2023, reliance on diesel fuel in the Strætó bus fleet has been decreasing, except for a slight increase in 2023. Meanwhile, the number of electric buses and vehicle kilometers has been rising for the past few years until the 26 percent decline experienced in 2022. Strætó also operates methane-fueled buses, however these only play a minor role.
