In 2023, "Barbie" was the movie with the highest- grossing weekend in the United States, recording a total revenue of 155 million dollars on its opening weekend. It was followed closely at 146.36 million dollars by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie's” first weekend.
The pandemic and the rise of video-on-demand have strongly impacted movie attendance.
