Number of private cars in Israel 2013-2022

In 2022, the number of private cars in Israel amounted to over 3.43 million. This was a slight rise compared to the previous year. The number of vehicles of this type has gradually increased since 2015. The automotive industry in Israel is mainly import-based. In 2022, licensed car trade agencies in Israel imported cars from  various countries, especially Japan and South Korea. Using a private vehicle daily is prevalent in Israel, mainly due to the lack of high-quality efficient public transportation in many areas of the country as well as little to no services on weekends due to religious regulations. As of 2022, Hyundai and Toyota constituted the  most popular cars among Israeli car buyers, according to the yearly sales of new vehicles. 

The electric vehicles industry is thriving

  The popularity of electric cars is soaring in Israel. One of the advantages of an electric vehicle that attracts buyers is the use of green energy, compared to polluting gasoline-powered cars. Since 2016, the  number of electric vehicles has followed an upward trend, reaching 16,251 in 2021. Notably, the interest in this type of vehicle is global, as, in the same year, the number of battery electric cars reached a record of 11.3 million worldwide. Furthermore, there is a relatively high demand for hybrid cars - partly electric vehicles - in Israel. The the quota of hybrid cars in the country amounted to 268,573 in 2021, a rise of over 30 percent compared to the preceding year.
