In 2021, the Northern region of Africa had the highest volume of natural gas reserves on the continent, with 280 trillion cubic feet. The second largest natural gas reserves were in Southern African countries, which recorded 204 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves. Nigeria and Algeria were the countries with the biggest natural gas reserves on the African continent.
