A 2022 survey conducted in the United Kingdom found that younger generations were more likely than older generations to agree that newspaper coverage of Meghan Markle was racist. Overall, almost half of all respondents aged 18 to 49 years said they thought the news coverage of Markle was either very racist or somewhat racist, whilst 27 percent of those belonging to the 50-64 year age group felt the same. Moreover, 43 percent of respondents aged 65 and over said the coverage was not racist at all.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the press
In recent years, international media has focused much attention on Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry was featured in more than 392 thousand online articles in 2018, the year of their wedding, whilst Markle was mentioned in more than 292,000. The pair declared their intention to stand down as senior members of the royal family in 2020.
Meghan finds popularity with U.S. Millennials
According to a study conducted in the third quarter of 2022 in the United States, Markle was most popular among Millennials. Overall, 45 percent of U.S. Millennials had a favorable opinion of the Duchess, while 79 percent were aware of her. Markle's popularity dipped among older generations. In early December 2022, the couple released a documentary on Netflix about their partnership and their decision to stand down from royal duties. "Harry & Meghan" went on to become Netflix's most watched-documentary in its first week.
