As of 2021, Libya accounted for 76 percent of crude oil reserves in Northern Africa. Algeria had the second largest oil reserves in the region, making up a share of 19 percent. The global distribution of oil reserves showed that Libya was among the leading ten countries with the highest share of oil reserves worldwide.
