The majority of Japanese people were aware that tobacco is related to a variety of health effects with cancer being the most commonly known risk. As revealed in a survey conducted between August and September 2022 in Japan, more than 92 percent of respondents stated they knew that tobacco is a cause of cancer like lung cancer.
By contrast, only 43.1 percent were aware that smoking was the most lethal habit that could be prevented.
