Although results differ depending on the region observed, the most common situations of deprivation experienced by French people in extreme poverty in 2018 included not being able to meet unexpected expenses, not being able to replace out-of-order furniture, and not being able to afford a week's vacation away from home. However, it should be noted that certain situations, such as lack of internet access or the ability to keep one's home at the right temperature, were more common in overseas regions than in metropolitan France.
In the same year, the proportion of people neither in poverty nor in extreme poverty was no more than half of the population in overseas regions, compared to nearly 80 percent in metropolitan France.
