Elon Musk: popularity in the U.S. 2022, by generation

According to a survey conducted in the United States in the third quarter of 2022, Elon Musk found most popularity amongst Millennials. Overall, 44 percent of U.S. Millennials had a positive view of the SpaceX CEO, and 90 percent knew of him. Although his popularity dipped with elder generations, Musk's fame increased, and despite 98 percent of Baby Boomers having heard of him, only 37 percent held a positive opinion.

Gen Z and Elon Musk

As of May 2022, Generation Z in the U.S. had conflicting views about Musk, as one in five Gen Z respondents thought very favorably of the tech billionaire, while 24 percent thought very unfavorably of the Twitter CEO. Furthermore, around one in ten respondents from this generation had never heard of him. As for adults in the U.S., men were more likely than women to have a positive opinion of Musk.

From Tesla CEO to Chief Twit

In October 2022, Musk finally acquired Twitter after announcing a shock bid on the social media platform months earlier. As of November 2022, 21 percent of U.S. citizens reported to strongly approve of Musk buying Twitter, down from 24 percent back in April. Moreover, one quarter of Americans said that they felt unsure about the Twitter takeover.
