In 2021, the retail sector spent 34.2 million U.S. dollars on advertising in newspapers in South Africa, up seven percent from 32 million dollars a year earlier. Despite the annual growth, the 2021 figure amounted to less than 72 percent of the 48-million-dollar newspaper ad spending recorded in 2019, before the pandemic.
