When asked what might encourage Europeans to buy or hire an e-bike in 2022, motivations around cost were the top responses among respondents to a survey carried out in August of that year. Nearly half of respondents thought that the cost of living might be a motivating factor to use an electric bike, and an e-bike subsidy was considered to be an incentive by about 41 percent of respondents. About a third of respondents also believed that environmental, mental, physical health, and road safety concerns play a role in buying or hiring an electric bike.

Data shows share of respondents who selected the options in response to the question: 'Which, if any, of the following do you think might encourage somebody to buy or hire and e-bike more now, compared to 12 months ago? (Please select all that apply)'.
Results are weighted.
Respondents were located in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
