In 2022, the number of fitness club members in China amounted to 71.45 million. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown measures throughout the year, gym memberships across China dropped more than three million between 2021 and 2022, while many service providers ran into financial difficulties. With growing awareness of health and fitness in the past few years, the gym sector experienced a period of prosperity before the pandemic, although its penetration rate amongst the general population remained relatively low.
