As of 2023, the mean age of the nuclear fleet of the European Union was 37.2 years. Almost 90 percent of the nuclear reactors in the EU had had a lifetime longer than 30 years. In the last 20 years, only three nuclear reactors were put online in the EU. In 2023, the number of nuclear reactors under construction in the EU amounted to two: one in Slovakia and one in France.
