In 2023, 7.8 percent of the population in Germany were considered to have a high income, while 16.6 percent were at risk of poverty. The income wealth rate thus remained unchanged compared to the previous year, while the at-risk-of-poverty rate fell for the second year in a row. The sum of the two rates as an indicator of social inequality thus fell by 0.2 percentage points to 24.4 percentage points.
