In 2022, slightly over 50 percent of municipal fishermen in the Philippines were engaged in capture fishing. Meanwhile, around 11 percent of fisherfolk did gleaning and aquaculture. That same year, the total number of local fishermen in the country amounted to around 2.3 million.
