In 2024, nuclear reactors were under construction in four European countries, namely France, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Italy phased-out nuclear power in 1987, Lithuania exited nuclear power in 2009, and Germany in 2023. 13 European countries were not planning the construction of new nuclear reactors: Belarus, Romania, Czechia, Hungary, Slovenia, Finland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Belgium.
