In the past two decades, Greenland ice sheets have lost an average of 267 gigatons per year, or more than 5,400 gigatons in total. In Antarctica, ice sheet loss were significantly lower, at an average of 139 gigatons per year. It is estimated that global sea level rises by one millimeter for every 360 gigatons of land ice lost.
