Between 2009 and 2020, the unemployment rate in the French overseas region of French Guiana increased by around two points, from 18.4 to 20.6 percent. In La Réunion, after an increase in 2014, unemployment had returned to its 2009 level by 2020, at 21.8 percent. The unemployment rate in the overseas regions tends to be much higher than in the regions of metropolitan France.
