The carrying capacity of the United States-controlled merchant fleet amounted to over 54.3 million tons deadweight in 2022. Over 80 percent of the total carrying capacity was provided by ships registered outside of the United States that year.

Military vessels, yachts, waterway vessels, fishing vessels, and offshore fixed and mobile platforms and barges are excluded.
