In December 2022, during the World Cup held in Qatar, England captain Harry Kane had 13.4 million followers on Instagram, making him the most followed member of England's men's squad. Manchester United's Marcus Rashford followed closely with 13.1 million followers on the popular social media platform, whilst Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander-Arnold were also very popular on Instagram, with 10.1 million and 8.3 million followers, respectively.

Welsh football player Gareth Bale dwarfs the England team players in terms of Instagram fans. Overall, Bale was the second most popular English-language athlete on the platform, with over 48 million followers, beaten only by American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James.

Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, and Jordan Henderson have all been awarded MBEs (Members of the Order of the British Empire). Rashford received his MBE at 22 years old, in appreciation of his assistance to disadvantaged children in the United Kingdom during the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular his help with the extension of the free school meal scheme.
