French cyber insurance companies recorded significant losses in 2020 due to the high value of claims paid out, which negatively impacted their loss ratio. The value of claims paid out in the following year was over 50 million euros less. Cyber insurers in France paid out 217 million euros in 2020 and 164 million euros in 2021. The loss ratio of French cyber insurers rose in 2020 and recovered in 2021.

The source analyzed 2,028 cyber insurance policies and 518 paid claims. They surveyed brokers specializing in corporate risk from February to March 2022 from the following insurers: Aon, Diot-Siaci, Filhet Allard, Marsh, Verlingue, Verspieren, and WTW. The insurance brokerage union, Planète CSCA, and a mutual insurance group, SMABTP, were also surveyed.
