Number of digital banks in Sub-Saharan Africa 2012-2021, by country
In 2021, Sub-Saharan Africa had a total of 21 digital banks. Among these, 10 were found in Nigeria and seven in South Africa, some of the largest fintech markets on the continent. The number of digital financial institutions in the region increased considerably compared to 2012, when there were only two banks operating digitally.
