Belarus was estimated to have produced 3.8 million metric tons of potash in 2023, which was significantly less than in the previous year and the lowest volume over the past decade. The production was negatively affected by the import ban on Belarusian potash placed by the United States and the European Union (EU) in 2022 in response to the involvement of Belarus in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In 2023, Russia's potash production fell by 7 percent compared to the previous year. Already in 2022, the EU and the U.S. partially restricted Belarusian potash imports over human rights violations in the country.
