The annual number of vessels calling at Turkish ports remained mostly stable before dropping dramatically to 55,300 in 2019 and 48,900 in 2020. After the first shock of the global coronavirus pandemic, this figure started increasing again, but stayed at below pandemic levels. As of 2023, 60,200 ships arrived to Turkish ports. The decrease in the number of calling vessels is mainly related to the changes in ship sizes, since the volume of cargo handled in Turkish ports increased in those years.
