In 2021, the total gross spending on research and development (R&D) across countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region amounted to more than 971 billion U.S. dollars. It was projected to increase to over one trillion U.S. dollars in 2022. China had by far the highest R&D spend in APAC in 2021.
