The Italian power company Enel SpA was the leading company worldwide for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in 2021, compared to 2012 levels. Although Enel reduced its emissions by over 50 percent between 2012 and 2021, the revenue of this company kept increasing. Enel met the carbon reduction goal by closing 80 percent of its fossil fuel power plants and replacing them with renewable power plants.
