After years of constant growth, the number of passengers served by the Italian public transit company TPER dropped by 38 percent in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, TPER's ridership recovered slightly, reaching 106.3 million passengers. The TPER (Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna) is the public company in charge of public transit in the Metropolitan city of Bologna, the province of Ferrara, and parts of the provinces of Modena and Ravenna.
