Registrations of new electric cars in Austria, including plug-in-hybrid (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), have risen substantially over the past decade. In the early 2010s registrations of electric passenger cars were still in the hundreds but have climbed to close to 64,600 vehicles in 2023. Particularly the past few years have seen substantial increases, with registrations more than doubling year-on-year from 2019 to 2020 and from 2020 to 2021.
