Number of M&A high tech exits in Israel 2015-2023

In recent years, Israel has become an important international hub for high-tech companies, many of which are startups. Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) are the most common type of high-tech exit deals in Israel. According to the IVC Research Center, the number of M&A high-tech exits in Israel amounted to 114 in 2022 and 39 in the first half of 2023. This was a significant decline compared to the preceding years. However, the number of exits increased between 2015 and 2021, with a few fluctuations. Another common type of exit deal in Israel is buyouts. As of the third quarter of 2022, the number of high-tech buyout exits  in the country amounted to five. In 2021, the total buyout exits reached nine, representing a considerable rise from the previous year.

M&A deals are both international and local

  Since Israel is known for its high-tech expertise, many international companies are interested in acquiring Israeli companies specializing in diverse fields such as cyber, data protection, and other tech clusters. Due to the extensive trade relations between Israel and the USA, American investors' acquisition of Israeli companies is joint. In 2021, the number of M&A high-tech exits with American acquirers  in Israel reached 86, the highest since 2015. Furthermore, M&A deals with Israeli acquirers are also prevalent in the Israeli market. For instance, in 2021, the number of M&A high-tech exits with Israeli acquirers  amounted to 59, continuing an upward trend since 2018.
