Russia-Ukraine war online news coverage worldwide 2017-2024, by keyword used

Over 745,400 articles mentioning the combination of keywords "Ukraine," "Russia," and "war" were published online in 65 languages worldwide in 2024, roughly two years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Furthermore, approximately 296,800 online articles contained a combination of "Ukraine," "Russia," and "invasion" in that year. The article count containing the keyword "conflict" together with the two countries was the lowest at 243,000. The figures for all three terms increased in 2022.

Even though Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, military actions in eastern Ukraine have taken place since 2014 between Ukraine's Armed Forces and separatists supported by the Russian government. Even prior to February 2022, the keyword combination of "Russia," "Ukraine," and "war" outnumbered the combination of "Russia," "Ukraine," and "conflict" in online media.
