The value of energy project investments as part of China's Belt & Road Initiative has decreased overall since 2013, despite some fluctuations. In 2021, total Belt & Road energy investments amounted to 25.23 billion U.S. dollars, whereas investments in 2013 approached 48 billion U.S. dollars. Notably, no investments into coal projects were made since 2021 as the government announced a halt to foreign coal investments.
