Global bauxite mine production share 2021, by country

Australia was the largest producer of bauxite worldwide in 2021, accounting for a 28.2 share of global production. Australia is the world's largest bauxite producer, and the world's largest bauxite mine, the Weipa Mine, is located there. China ranked second, with a 22.1 percent production share.

Bauxite is a sedimentary rock mined for its high concentrations of aluminum-bearing minerals. Four to five metric tons of bauxite is processed into two metric tons of alumina, which is then processed through electrolysis into one metric ton of aluminum.
