According to a survey conducted on WeChat in China in the end of 2021, nearly 56 percent of respondents said they were not ready for a romantic relationship or were not sure about it. Only eleven percent of respondents were very confident in being suitable and ready for a romantic relationship.

Among 2,628 survey respondents, approximately 73 percent were female and 27 percent were male; nearly 60 percent were single people and 28 percent were in a relationship but not married; around 92 percent were born after 1990; nearly 97 percent had undergraduate/college or higher educational degree; around 65 percent were from 1st tier and new 1st tier cities and around 17 percent were from 2nd tier cities.
