During the 2022 midterm election cycle, Arizona-based mining company Freeport-McMoRan contributed 74 percent of its total giving contributions to candidates who did not certify the 2020 election results. Missouri-based company Olin donated 83 percent of its total donations to election denying candidates.
The 2020 U.S. election saw Donald Trump lose to Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. In the aftermath of the election, Donald Trump and his supporters spread false information that the election had been rigged - and that the real winner was Trump. Despite a lack of evidence to support this claim, 139 members of the House of Representatives and eight members of the Senate voted against the certification of the election results.
