New individual income protection sales in the UK 2017-2022, by distribution channel
More than 85 percent of new income protection insurance policies in the United Kingdom were sold by directly-authorized firms in 2022. In 2022, directly-authorized firms sold 158,271 new policies compared with only 20,027 sold by tied agents. Directly-authorized firms are solely responsible for all compliance, complaints, and other regulatory responsibilities, whereas tied agents distribute insurance policies for one firm exclusively but are usually self-employed.
