The 2022 Chilean national plebiscite, held on 4 September 2022, resulted in the rejection of the proposal from Constitutional Convention. The Convention met for the first time in July 2021 and was established in order to draft a new Constitution that would replace the one in force since 1980, approved during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. One month after the Chilean society rejected the proposed Constitution, the majority of respondents still prefered to adopt a new Magna Carta for the country. According to a survey conducted in October 2022 in Chile, the most popular option regarding the future of the constitutional process was to start anew and draft a new Constitution.
