In the runoff of the Brazilian 2022 presidential elections, held in October 30, Lula da Silva, candidate of the Workers' Part (PT) and former leader of the country, was elected president after obtaining 60.35 million votes, 50.9 percent of the total.
The presidential race has been characterised by its extreme polaritazation, reflected not only by the tightly contested results of the second round, but by Bolsonaro's and Lula's high rejection rates and the unprecedented concentration of votes in the two leading candidates during the first round as well.
