The reasons that consumers access illegal media content despite the risks are varied and often overlap. The main reason given by internet users (55 percent) is that illegal sources are free or cheaper than legal ones. 29 percent stated that it was the only way to find the content that they desired. Others expressed issues such as accessibility. For example, 21 percent said that it is available quicker, while 20 percent stated that it is easier to find and access. While 19 percent mentioned that there is no need to register. Eight percent mentioned that an influencer or famous person recommended accessing content through illegal sources.
