The Tupi oil and gas field is the leading fossil fuel extraction project in Brazil in terms of lifetime emissions. As of 2020, this project had released over 20 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) into the atmosphere. This was followed by the Búzios oil and gas field, at some 8.3 GtCO₂e.
