In 2020, most vessels flying the United States' flag were more than 25 years old. The majority of these ships were dry bulk cargo barges, amounting to 7,337 vessels. Only 5,093 ships flying the U.S. flag were younger than six years in 2020, 3,324 of which were dry bulk cargo barges.
