In 2020, the total waterborne commerce of the United States (U.S.) amounted to over 2.2 billion short tons, a decrease of about six percent compared with the previous year. U.S.-international trade reached the tonnage of nearly 1.5 billion short tons, while the trade within the country amounted to some 743 million short tons.
