In 2023, China's total production volume of wild caught fish and seafood from marine and inland waters amounted to approximately 13 million metric tons. The total capture volume declined from more than 16 million metric tons in 2015 to around 13 million metric tons in recent years, while the production volume from aquaculture kept on growing.

According to the source, fish and seafood products include wild caught products from marine and freshwater sources, including oceans, rivers, lakes and ponds. Seafood also includes both animal and plant products, but does not include the total algae production for industrial purposes. The marine production volume includes capture from distant waters, amounting to around 2.32 million metric tons in 2023.Â
