*Mining and quarrying of stone and gravel, compound services, and services not elsewhere classified such as waste disposal businesses, automobile maintenance services, employment and working dispatching services, political, business, and cultural organizations, etc.

'Added value' refers to the value that is newly generated during the production activities of an enterprise, etc.
The formulas used for the calculation:
Added value = sales value - total cost + total wages and salaries + tax and public imposition
Total cost = cost of goods sold + selling cost and administrative expenses
Excluding the following elements of GDP that are contained in the concept of the system of national accounts: added value from consumption of fixed capital, social insurance premium charged on an employer, imputed rent of an owned house, research and development expenditure, operator of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, public enterprises, and producers of government services.

Definition of SMEs by industry: Manufacturing, construction, and transportation, as well as other industries not mentioned below: companies whose capital does not exceed 300 million JPY, or a company or an individual whose regular workforce does not exceed 300 people. Wholesale trade: companies whose capital does not exceed 100 million JPY, or a company or an individual whose regular workforce does not exceed 100 people. Service: companies whose capital does not exceed 50 million JPY, or a company or an individual whose regular workforce does not exceed 100 people. Retail trade: companies whose capital does not exceed 50 million JPY, or a company or an individual whose regular workforce does not exceed 50 people.

100 Japanese yen equal 0.64 U.S. dollars or 0.59 euros as of June 2024.
