About 74 percent of first-time buyers were willing to pay more for better energy efficiency, compared to 67 percent of second-time buyers. In general, first-time buyers were more willing to pay for specific features of a green home than second-time buyers. First-time buyers were also more likely to consider purchasing a green home in 2022.

The source added that they wanted to compare the attitudes of those looking to get on the housing ladder vs those already on the housing ladder. In order to test and compare they conducted a survey of more than 500 people who were ‘first time buyers’ (251 respondents) or ‘second time buyers’ (253 respondents).
