In 2022, around 24.8 percent of the German population identified as Catholic. This was a slight decrease compared to the year before. This statistic shows the share of people in Germany who identified as Catholic from 1950 to 2021.

The information about the number of Catholics from 1964 is the result of a rewrite and update by the DBK based on the census from May 27, 1970. From 1987, the update was based on the census from May 25, 1987. The figures from 1990 refer to information from parishes and dioceses. From 2012, figures were based on the 2011 census. Figures for previous years are based on earlier source information.

From 1990 including new federal states.

DBK = Deutsch Bischofskonferenz (German Bishops Conference).
