The rate at which plastics use is projected to grow over the coming decades varies greatly by region, with developing regions and economies projected to experience the fastest rates of growth between 2019 and 2060. For example, plastics use is projected to grow by almost 500 percent between 2019 and 2060, while plastics use in economies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is projected to more than triple. Meanwhile, plastics use in developed regions will continue to grow, but at a slower rate. By 2060, global plastics use is projected to reach more than 1.2 billion metric tons.
