Frequency of internet use in Czechia 2021

Most internet users in Czechia (82.3 percent) accessed the internet multiple times a day in 2021. The internet was used only six to seven times a week by 12.1 percent of users. A little over three percent accessed the internet just three to five times a week. The share concerning less-than-weekly use was close to zero.

What do the Czechs do on the internet?

  Internet penetration in Czechia has steadily increased over the past decades, reaching 84.5 percent in 2022. With time also rose the frequency of usage. But what do the Czechs do when they connect to the internet? The most beloved internet activities in Czechia are ones that are often associated with frequent internet usage. This includes sending and receiving emails, checking online news websites, and staying in contact with friends and family through instant messaging, all of which are very popular online activities among Czech internet users. The quickly rising share of people shopping online in recent years shows another reason for Czechs to go on the internet frequently.

International comparison

  Compared to a few other European countries, the frequency of daily internet use in Czechia is similar to that of Germany. Overall, it needs to catch up to some Western and Nordic European countries with a very high share of daily internet usage, e.g., Iceland or Luxembourg. However, it is ahead of other countries like Bulgaria or Greece. Despite these differences, the daily frequency of use continues to rise among European countries altogether.
