The EU's Directorate-General for Competition (DG Comp) is the European Commission's antitrust body, responsible for investigation and decision-making in competition law cases in the EU. Since the beginning of Margrethe Verstager's term as the commissioner for DG Comp in 2014, the directorate has handed out some of its largest fines for breaches of European antitrust rules, notably its two largest fines were given to Google in 2017 and 2018.
